The 3M Elite allergen reduction filter is made with both positively charged and negatively charged fibers that act like tiny magnets to attract air-polluting contaminants. Since particles in the air are either positively or negatively charged, they are attracted to and captured by the filter and kept out of your living space.
Electrostatic filters, including the 3M Elite allergen reduction filter, perform better than comparable non-electrostatic fiberglass and washable/reusable filters, because they attract and capture the small, allergy-aggravating microparticles that non-electrostatic filters can't.

What a difference 300 MPR makes! We upgraded to the 3M Filtrete 2200 MPR Elite Allergen Reduction Filters and immediately noticed an improvement in our home air quality.
We live in a non-smoking home with two indoor dogs. Our youngest son is the most sensitive to air quality. We change filters based on his sneezing, which can come on like an attack of the hiccups. We had used the 3M Filtrete 1900 MPR Ultimate Allergen Reduction Filter for years because it was the highest rated filter available for sale at the local home improvement stores.
We found the 3M Filtrete 2200 MPR Elite Allergen Reduction Filter on Amazon.com. They run about $4 higher per filter than the 3M Filtrete 1900 MPR. It would be fantastic if Amazon made these available through their Subscribe & Save program (hint, hint) but we have no other complaints. Amazon sells these filters in 6-packs, which is common among online filter sellers. However, I found Amazon's 6-pack price to be at least $15 cheaper than competitors' prices.
Consumer Reports ranks the 3M Filtrete Allergen 2200 MPR the best Do-It-Yourself filter. It receives an excellent rating for dust/pollen removal, a good rating for smoke removal and a very good rating for airflow resistance. This high-performance filter also meets the American Lung Association of the Upper Midwest Health House Program's indoor air quality guidelines.
According to the 3M website, the company "developed the Microparticle Performance Rating (MPR) system to demonstrate a filter's ability to capture the smallest airborne particles--from 0.3 to 1 micron in size from the air passing through the filter. The MPR system helps you compare Filtrete filters based on the level of air filtration you want. The higher the MPR, the better the filter's ability to capture particles from the air as it passes through the filter."

MARCH 2012 UPDATE: Our family continues to use the 3M Filtrete Allergen 2200 MPR filters with great success. Unfortunately, Amazon has discontinued offering these filters through their Subscribe & Save program. In our community, you can't find filters with the 2200 MPR level and, if you do, they are more expensive than Amazon's everyday price. The one advantage is that you can buy one filter at a time instead of the six-packs offered by Amazon. If you have any questions, please feel free to send me an email.

I am always looking for ways to make my life less misserable as my allergies affect all the other conditions of my body especially digestion and Migraine headaches.....that's why I say "Extreme Allergic, or in my case "Extreme Sensitivities")
Bought this product a week ago and installed it immmediately in my home furnace (air blown of course). Felt a bit better in 24 hours and after several days of 24/7 running the furnace (house) fan what a difference.
Am now able to cope with much less allergy medications unless I go outside and get polluted with the extreme amount of spores now in the air namely ragweed.
Other than moving, which I am planning to do asap this is the best alternative to doing so until you can.
March 4, 2012 ------ UPDATE TO ABOVE: Now, more than a year later I can say with absolute fervor the above is absolutely a truth to remember.....the only place I am truly allergy free is in our home with or without the dog who died after my first review...
Also, I said I was planning to move; in light of what I have written...that is to say, I have a great comfort level in my house and we will own it when my wife retires, we have decided to stay in our present home and eventually buy in addition to these filters: A new heating/cooling system WITH AN ADDITIONAL UNIT (MACHINE) THAT REMOVES ALLERGENS FROM THE AIR.....I WILL MAKE SURE, HOWEVER, THAT any system I use has THE ABILITY to use my favorite filter without overheating the fan motor....in other words, built for the job!

Still recommed what I originally said; at least if I have to have this problem of HYPER-ALERGY to so many things I have one place to breath allergy free air!

My son and I have severe alergies. I bought this because of its highest rating for air cleansing and I am not disappointed. I highly recommend this filter.
